Gráinne & David Tankardstown House

Winter Wedding at Tankardstown House

A winter wedding at Tankardstown House is enough to raise your spirits during these crazy times. With 25 guests and one dog Poults! who was heavily involved in David’s getting ready.

The morning of the wedding, its no surprise, if he actually instructed David how to tie that bow tie by the window! Meanwhile, at Gráinne’s I was blown away by how musical the family are. Gráinne had told me she enjoyed playing the piano but she never told me, she had won loads of awards and was actually brilliant at it!

David and the lads are pretty laid back, they seemed to spend most of the morning watching the tv, while the girls busied themselves getting ready. Gráinne and David had told me one of the reasons they chose Couple Photography for their wedding at Tankardstown House was we seem to manage to capture some funny moments. During the morning I learned Gráinne, is quite the tomboy, so along with some romantic photos, we documented her jumping walls, pushing the heavy Tankardstown House gates and even pushing David on a bike outside her winter wedding at Tankardstown House. Very apt, since a bicycle trip from Dublin to Cork was part of the engagement proposal story she told me!

With a winter wedding the light can fall by 3.30 pm. So luckily we had the light of the classic Rolls Royce to do some fun photos with. They were great sports and crouched down to the head lights for me when I asked and when I said inch to your left, they did it without complaining. They are a happy go lucky couple!

Usually, I go to photograph a wedding at Tankardstown House, and the piano is played by a musician hired on the day, but Gráinne blew us all away by playing the piano for her new husband. Then, to the staircase for some Downtown Abbey style photos before getting stuck into our family photos by the Tankardstown Christmas tree.

When asked about a Covid wedding, their answer was: Go with the flow, be comfortable with chaos and don’t sweat the small stuff. Remember what the day is really all about. Wise words indeed.
