Winter wedding at Coolbawn Quay

How exciting to plan a winter wedding at Coolbawn Quay when you are both living and working on Jeju Island in South Korea. I had to google it and learnt that the island is well known for natural wonders, including waterfalls, white sand beaches and a dormant volcano. South Korea’s highest mountain is at the centre of the island.

But Jackie originally hails from Mayo and Barry from Tipperary. They did meet in South Korea though. They wanted some venue a bit different; both of them are outdoorsy so chose their wedding at Coolbawn Quay. They told me they liked that it is quite different and near the water and looks amazing at Christmas time.

They both got ready at Coolbawn Quay and chose to have a humanist ceremony at Coolbawn Quay with fabulous music by their good friends who also were at the wedding. The song Jackie planned to walk up the aisle she told me was sung by both of her grandparents when she was young ‘She Moves through the Fair’

Jackie and Barry also wanted a relaxed day so they had agreed with us and Dreamcatcher Productions to have a first look at Coolbawn Quay in the morning. And what magical a morning did they wake up to. Jackie walked up to Barry in the most romantic mist which swirled around the lake. We took some lovely photos of them by the lake and then afterwards began documenting the wedding day at Coolbawn Quay.

After the ceremony, the fog lifted and the lake at Coolbawn quay was drenched in winter sunlight so Jackie and Barry got some amazing photos again by the lake this time at the golden hour, close to sunset. We did manage to take some family photos too before all the guests were called in to hear the speeches. We learnt how Jackie is quite the accomplished GAA player with three All Ireland medals.

We left them to enjoy their evening celebrations with the brilliant The Papa Zitas performing. Before we headed we made sure we took photos of the wedding rings.   We loved Jackie’s unusual yellow sapphire engagement ring that Barry got for her, presented on the day in a wooden box made by Jackie’s godfather. They are planning a honeymoon in Bali afterwards I hear.
